Blue Box is a cult. The name itself is a programme. For twenty years this band has succeeded in overlayering each period with its music, much like the blue box technique used in filmmaking. The jazz trio does not go along with the prevailing musical trends but cultivates styles that go against the drift and charts a new course. In the early eighties when DJ club jazz was still in its infancy, the new-age music produced by Blue Box upset the jazz purists. Some called it ‘techno jazz’, others ‘no wave funk’, and some ‘industrial dance’.

After a 10-year break in recording, Blue Box is back on the scene under the new name of nuBox. With the help of the sounds and technical potential offered by the current electronic and remix scene, the three musicians transpose their past to a new future. In doing so they openly reach out to the young generation: they perform live with DJ Illvibe, son of the German free jazz pioneer, Alexander von Schlippenbach. *Blue Box*, alias *nuBox*, continues to explore the world beyond jazz, dancefloor, the avantgarde and underground.

In the early 80s when DJ club jazz was still uncommon the eclectic music of Blue Box came as a big surprise horrifying the jazz purists. Some called it techno jazz, some no wave funk, some industrial dance. After their big success at the 1985 Berlin Jazz Festival and their award-winning debut album "Sweet Machine" Winterschladen, Kott and Eisold started an international career that led them not only to several European countries but even to far-away places like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Jakarta and Seoul. Their third album "Captured Dancefloor" reflected the rise of dancefloor jazz in the late 80s. Charismatic trumpet lines communicate with complex rhythms and driving bass grooves: The sound of Blue Box was way ahead of its time and soon turned this trio into a cult band.

Following their resounding success at the 1985 Berlin Jazz Festival and the award-winning debut album /Sweet Machine/, Reiner Winterschladen, Alois Kott and Peter Eisold launched their international career with over 400 concerts that took them to Israel, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Yugoslavia, France, Switzerland, Holland, Portugal and other countries too. They also made several trips to Asia including the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore and have toured India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. “They scattered tunes like fragrant flowers across the hall and stole the hearts of the audience” wrote the Indian press after a performance in Hyderabad. This was the year they collaborated with DJ Westbam and composed the German contribution to the Art Disco at the Olympic Games in Seoul.

In 1989, their third album /Captured Dancefloor reflected the rise of dancefloor jazz. Charismatic trumpet lines communicate with complex rhythms and driving bass grooves – the sound of the future that was soon to accord *Blue Box* cult status.

A member of the NDR Big Band since 1995, trumpet player *Reiner Winterschladen* participated in numerous recordings for jazz labels, radio and TV. Over the years he played some very distinguished solos on albums of the Nighthawks, the Klaus König Orchestra and Ensemble Indigo.

Alois Kott, bass professor and founder of several ensembles, has been a professional musician for 30 years. He made recordings for ECM, Enja, Intuition and other labels and composed works of chamber music for the WDR.

Drummer Peter Eisold is best known for his work on the experimental and alternative concert scene. He played with groups like the AOS Ensemble and Modern Percussion Quintet, was composer for the Supernova Orchester and was the drummer in Helge Schneider's Big Band.
